Srah’s cute haircut posts reminded me that I need to get a haircut. Does anybody know of any good hair places in Ann Arbor?
Please don’t mention Aveda. They’ve screwed up my hair twice before so I’m not risking it a third time.

I liked Arbor Hills Salon on S. State Street
I went to Brown & Deline, but that’s all the way down in my ‘hood.
The folks at Above Ground are better with curly hair than anyone else I’ve found in town. Just so ya know…
Where is Above Ground? Is that the place on S. State (across from campus)?
And who the hell is Bob? Well, I think I know but . . .
If AboveGround is the one on S. State right next to the ice cream places, DON’T GO THERE! I got a free haircut and I would’t go back for another free one, leave aside a paid one.
I had pretty good luck with Cookie at Above Ground. She cuts curly hair very well, even though she is a bit annoying as a person. It is pricy, but worth it. I recently discovered this site, which has a listing of member recommended salons, here’s the michigan page: http://www.naturallycurly2.com/curlscene/salons.php?state=Michigan
where’d you end up going?
I ended up getting my hair cut at Arbor Hills. The haircut is fun but I think it is a little too short (but hey it’s hair so it’ll grow back, no big deal, right?). I’m not sure if I’ll go back there again, though. It was pricey and the salon isn’t that nice (well, not nice enough to charge $45 for a haircut/style). The hair stylist was also telling me about how they were confused when I booked my appointment because I “spoke perfect English” but had an ethnic name (she may have said foreign but I really can’t remember) . . . so that’s really the main reason why I won’t be going back there again.
lol so if I go there she’ll look at me and say “I’m confused, you are not Sylvie Williams.”
i’d go back to above ground. i’d even pay for it. i’ve heard that comment from “bob” before, so i think i know who he is….
I went to Cappello’s Hair Salon on E. Liberty last week to get my hair wash, cut, and blow dried/flat ironed. I am mixed and have naturally curly hair. The person who did my hair cut off three inches which was OK. But he didn’t even style or layer it so it wasn’t even a real haircut. The flat ironing was awful. Not enough time was spent on my hair and in an hour after leaving the salon my hair was already frizzed out. I had to spend even more money the next day to get it flat ironed AGAIN. The worst thing about this salon is that they won’t refund your money. I called them back and explained to them the situation. Their excuse was that a regular hair cut (remind you that only 3 inches were cut and not even layered or styled) was $40 and that they had given me a discount!!!! Unbelievable. Then the stylist left me a voice mail message saying that he doesn’t refund money after his services are complete. That’s like a restaurant telling a customer that they can’t ask for their money back after eating bad food. Since they won’t give me back my money I’ll make sure that they lose even more in revenue. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. Please tell your friends too.
Hi….
I’m a stylist in Ann Arbor at Orbit Hair Design. I work with some down to earth, creative, talented people. I know finding a stylist you click with, and that know what they are doing, can be very difficult.

Brown and DeLine has two locations. They are both excellent. One on Carpenter and one on Jackson.
I am a manicurist, new to the Brown & Deline Salons. I work in the East Store on Carpenter Road. It is a great place to have any salon service. I am running a $ 35 Classic Pedicure special, and a $ 35 Full Set of Acrylic or Fiberglass special. If anyone wishes to experience a great service, look me up. I’m Ryan Garner.
Also, our salon is running a Chocolate Pedicure or Chocolate Facial Promotion. They are both extremely moisturizing for dry skin. Plus they smell good, too..~!
